Helping the world without moving or paying

Hello!

Did you know that even the search engine you use can make a difference to the environment? Well I didn’t until recently! There is a search engine called ‘Ecosia’ which plants trees with the money it makes from search ads. How crazy! So, by just searching things on the web through Ecosia you can contribute to more trees being planted. When using Ecosia as a search engine the first few links will be advertisements, so you just have to scroll down until you find what you’re looking for – worth it to plant trees! Ecosia has planted 20,000,000 trees already... Yes 20 MILLION trees! It also tells you how many searches you’ve done on Ecosia and it takes 45 searches to plant a tree, so you can see exactly how many trees you’re responsible for planting.

Trees are seriously important for numerous reasons such as creating more oxygen, sucking in the CO2, creating homes for animals, creating food, preventing soil erosion and more! So basically, planting trees is bloomin’ great and Ecosia has projects around the world from re-greening the Sahara Desert, which improves the difficult living conditions of the local people in the desert, to reforesting Madagascar for the wildlife to return and preventing erosion. If these amazing projects aren’t enough to convince you to use this search engine go check out their website which has loads more information and more projects. Changing to using this search engine is something super easy you can do to be part of doing something good for the environment. You don’t even have to pay anything or move – bonus!

There’s even another way to help the world without moving or paying. WOO! There’s a website called GreaterGood.com which allows you to click a project (there’s a button that says ‘click here’ on the website) and then that click will contribute money to the project. All you do is click and you don’t pay anything. Yeah, it’s crazy simple! Hang on though where does the money come from? Sponsors pay to advertise on the website and every time someone clicks and sees the advertisement the sponsors get charged – the money from the sponsors then goes to a charity related to the project you clicked on. AMAZING! You’re only allowed to click once a day though but doing it every day will have a massive difference. There are different projects you can click on, so you get to choose which project you want to help. For example, I’ve clicked on projects related to helping girl servants in Nepal and Breast Cancer. What a great way to make a difference! It’s very accessible on phones as well, so instead of scrolling through Instagram and double tapping a random celebrities photo whilst drinking your morning tea, you can tap a button on the Greater Good website which will contribute to some great charities!

Thank you for reading! Hope you go on to plant trees with your search engine and click away to help the world! 😊
